Therapeutic Support

Therapeutic Support

At Avigail Residence, we provide therapeutic support designed to help young people feel safe, understood, and supported during a key stage of life. Our care goes beyond traditional therapy sessions—healing is built into daily routines, staff relationships, and the way we connect with each individual. Through individual and group therapy, tailored interventions, and a nurturing environment, we focus on emotional well-being, resilience, and building trust.

Pace

Embracing the PACE Model

At Avigail Residence, we use the PACE model. Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy as the foundation of how we connect with young people. Playfulness builds safety and trust, while Acceptance validates feelings without judgment. Curiosity helps us gently explore what’s behind behaviors, encouraging reflection and self-awareness. Empathy allows us to co-regulate, offering calm support during moments of distress. This approach shapes everyday life-form conversations to routines ensuring connection comes before correction and every young person feels understood, valued, and safe.

Thrive Space

Why We Choose This Approach

We use a therapeutic, PACE-informed approach because many of the young people we care for have lived through early trauma, neglect, or unstable relationships. Traditional behaviour systems can often make things worse, but PACE focuses on building trust, supporting healing, and creating secure, lasting connections.

This way of working fits with our trauma-informed values, helps young people grow emotionally over time, and greatly reduces the risk of placements breaking down.

Therapeutic Training

Our Therapeutic Training Programme

Our goal is to create a safe, nurturing, and stable home where every young person feels valued, supported, and given the chance to grow.

  • Trauma & Attachment Basics – Understanding how early experiences affect the brain and behaviour.

  • Introduction to PACE – Practical ways to use PACE during daily routines, in times of crisis, and in 1:1 support.

  • Reflective Practice & Supervision – Time for staff to reflect together or individually, with guidance and support.

  • De-escalation & Emotional Regulation – Learning co-regulation strategies and the role of sensory awareness.

  • Therapeutic Language & Communication – Moving away from shaming language and using words that repair and build trust.

  • Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP) – Building safe, trusting relationships through connection.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention – Supporting young people safely during times of stress or crisis.

  • Sensory Processing & Integration – Understanding how sensory needs affect behaviour and wellbeing.

Training is reviewed every quarter, with reflective debriefs and shadowing opportunities to support continuous learning and growth.
